I've made it a habit to follow a few "Top " lists, such as Fortune Magazines Top 100 Companies To Work For , just because of the personal satisfaction that comes with knowing I'll always have a benchmark or two to emulate, should I ever grow my small business to the point of hiring 250,000 very lucky professionals in the near future...!
The funny thing is that it didn't occur to me to try and develop these listed companies and their happy employees into prospective customers... DUH?
I mean, magazines like Fortune, Forbes and Conde' Nast Portfolio are always coming up with some kind of list, and trust me, these lists are well researched, and they would be the kind of lists( with a few more bits of info) that a sales person might PAY FOR...
Looking at such a list and then utilising some smart search engines, you might come up with a sure enough "Treasure Map " that practically tells you how and where the MONEY in such a list might be collected!
Try creating a database with the provided information, and then ADD (From your searches) relevant information to each subject. Fortune Magazine has even provided website links for each company, and this definitely will help you sniff out the finer information that you will need.
HOW TO SELL TO A COMPANY.... might also help you focus on the important information that you will need... You don't want to create a list that is "DOA "... you are out to make that list's inhabitants (Ahem) come alive for you.....
