That's right I'm a role model. I've been chosen by a local organization to be among several business owners to speak at Career Day at a local elementary school.
It's very satisfying but at the same time very humbling. I have worked hard to get where I am but in all reality I'm no one special. I'm not a big celebrity, I don't run an international conglomerate. I can think of many people better suited than myself but then again I think maybe these kids don't need to hear from the famous and ultra powerful, maybe they need to hear from someone that they can relate to.
In all reality how many kids can relate to Donald Trump? There's a cynicism in our society that even extends to children today. They don't relate to these icons they worship them. And maybe that's why they need to hear from people like me. It's hard to imagine yourself on a level with someone that you have put on a pedestal.
Luckily I'm not on a pedestal and I am doing everything to stay off of a pedestal. I really don't think the fall would be much fun. So If I can show them that you don't have to be perfect, to succeed then I will have achieved something.
