I'm a Business owner. How many of you feel that statement applies to you? If you think you are a "Business owner" then read on and find out if you really are a business owner or if you are playing at it.
Business owners make an intial investment in their business. Some people call it start up fees which I hate, it's an investment. Investments can range from under $500 for a home based distributor ship up to tens of thousands for a franchise or private owner. SOme franchises can be over $100,000! But now matter where you fall on the scale it is an investment, you are opening the doors to your business.
Business owners never stop learning. It doesn't matter if you are in Mary Kay, McDonalds or you opened Joe's Automotive, learning is a necessary part of doing business. Advances in the industry, new or changing legislation or just continuing education points learning these things are vital to protecting your business and keeping it competitive.
Business owners depend on "experts". Do you really think that the CEO of McDolnalds knows every little in and out of running the McDonald's Corporation? Of course he doesn't. He knows the generalities of the different areas, but when it comes to the details he depends on the expert or VP in that department to advise him.
Business owners know and follow the rules. Business owners don't wait for someone to tell them they broke the rules. They learn the rules and follow them, it's called regulatory compliance. Ignoring those rules can mean fines that can put that business out of business.
Business owners constantly invest the time needed to keep their business healthy. For some it may be going to different meetings or networking. It means going over your business statistics knowing where you are in you business plan and mission statement. Reviewing and adjusting your goals etc.
If you aren't doing these things, you aren't in business, you are playing at being in business. Home based business owners who make an investment in their business do these things just like the CEO of McDonald's does these things. They want to get back their investment. They also know that they are not going to get rich overnight or sign up for some internet "Program" and suddenly have thousands of dollars rolling into their bank account.
Now if you think you can just sign up for some program with no investment, put no time into working, ignore those who have more knowledge than you, blow off rules and put your business on auto-pilot; you are not a business owner
