I am going to ruffle a few feathers but oh well, that's life and I tend to do that anyway.  My pet peeve du jour? These crappy annoying automated marketing techniques.

Technique 1 The Autoresponder

I made the mistake one time of clicking on an e-book a couple of years ago which got me put on a guru's list.  For the past couple of years I have gotten constant autoresponder e-mails which are completely ignored and deleted.  It's would seem obvious that I am not imterested in what he has to offer and yet I get e-mails from him weekly.  Now after a couple of years I get "Warnings"  I'm going to be dropped from his list.   Well all I can say is about time.  This is after I went through the "unsubscribe" process more than once.  Please drop me already and stop stinking up my inbox!

Technique 2 The "Forced" Capture Page

Do you really think I'm going to be idiotic enough to give you my e-mail just so you can have the ability to spam me?  Nope not happening.  I've already got one Idiot guru annoying my nerves.  I do not intend to add to my collection of spammers and scammers.  If you can't be straightforward about what you're offering I'm not interested.  I don't have the time or the urge to play your game just find out that you have absolutely nothing of value to offer me!

Technique 3 The Automated Advertising Call

I find this to be the most intrusive of all the automated marketing techniques.  I have a phone number to conduct business and listening to some computer generated automated advertising message about so Marketing system "guaranteed" to bring me dozens of sign ups in my downline each month is not conducting business.  The time you are wasting tying up my phone line could be better spend talking to a prospect or client which you are not.  And the fact that you are using some automated computer line to annoy others all over the country with your BS promises makes you the worst of the lot.

I know many of you think these are simply efficient ways to contact prospects, no they are not, they are efficient ways to spam a prospect.  You see everyone using the tools is doing the exact same thing that you are doing, and it is not getting them or you any closer to your goal, It's pissing people off. So lets look at some non intrusive ways to use these items

Autoresponders are a good way to keep in touch with your clients and send regular updates on products and services, but if I'm not already doing business with you do you really think annoying me at regular intervals is going to help?

Capture pages that are presented after a prospect has seen your offer will get you reponses from people who are interested.  No you won't get as many responses but the quality of the ones you get will be highly improved.  Do you really want to fill your autoresponder with junk e-mails from peaple that want nothing to do with you or your products.

I don't even know what to say about these automated phone calls.  I don't think I can even come up with an acceptable use for it.  The whole system is intrusive and inconsiderate.  When the phone rings on a business line it is answered because it may be a client calling.  That business person get's highly pissed when the potential client turns out to be a computerized sales speach.  And I get at least 5 or 6 of these sales calls a week.  Because of these calls I don't even answer the phone for numbers I don't recognize anymore so you are wasting your time.  I'll just delete you from the voicemail when I get round to it!

I get annoyed by the spam no end. It's a shame that people don't realize exactly what the repercussions are of using these methods completely

I'm still trying to figure out why it is so hard to grasp the fact that the abuse of things like autoreponders and capture pages are turning these things into obsolete marketing methods. The average person is getting tired of it and they are starting to make the connection between capture pages and spam.

Capture pages and autoresponders are going the way of the at dinner time telemarketing call, which is out the window. The government created a "Do Not Call" list as a response to the telemarketing industry. Everyone got tired of the constant calls from telemarketers.

There are spam and scam reporting agencies already set up to deal with the problem of unwanted spam e-mails and it was set up for one reason, people are getting tired of it. Eventually even the responsible marketers will find this avenue closed off to them.

Oh my Cheryl, I know exactly how you are feeling.
Not having enough experience with all those guru spam mails, I was so stupid to sign up for one of those giveaways you see running everywhere.
The downloads....well they looked ok and informational enough, but for every other download in the giveaway section, you had to provide your email again and again to yet another guru. At least, if you did not want to pay a fee to download them all without signing up for each one of them.
It took me more time to unsubscribe than to read the books and reports. Learned my lesson and stay away from guru-lists.

Thanks for sharing your pet peeve!

I'm on one guru's list and have been spammed for two years funny how I simply clicked on a link for an e-book and suddenly I start getting e-mails from him. And guess what this guru is doing? Teaching everyone in his system to do the same thing.

Some people (the minority) will actually use these tools correctly but the constant influx of garbage from the majority who have jumped on these marketing methods is killing it.

Also If you notice I said FORCED capture page. I don't have a problem with capture pages that ask for information after I've seen the product service. That makes sense. after all I have had the the opportunity to decide if I want to be annoyed with someone's garbage.

Sorry San I stand by this whole thread. For every person that is using these tools correctly 1000 are blasting their spam garbage all over the place.

The thing is how rude and inconsiderate is it to call a business phone, and to solicit someone on their business line, knowing it is a business and exactly what business it is? It's not an accident when the computer generated message starts with "How would you like your XYZ company business to explode.....

How do you go from being on one 'gurus' list and getting 'spammed' from them to assuming that everyone uses their list the same way? I use a capture page, and an opt in box on my blog to get folks on my list, and I don't 'spam' anyone who joins.
At least I don't think I do. I've not recieved any complaints and in fact get some really nice 'thank you' messages. Any of my subscribers who write me with a particular question get a personal answer. Admittedly this doesn't happen too often with some of the 'gurus', but there is a lot of useful information given away from some of them.

Can't say too much about the phone calls cos I haven't recieved any. lol, maybe they think I'm not worth the cost?

Kevin  Dec 21st, 2008
one thing you can do cheryl is to press # to talk to a live person instead of pressing # to remove you from the list. I do this all the time. I even play along with them and their offer. I spend an hour on the phone with them all the way to the point of them wanting to take my credit info. Usually what happens is they want to my bank on a 3 way call with us. Then when that happens I tell my bank that this is Mr/Ms so and so and they want me to buy their crap. My bank person laughs and so do I and then the person gets pissed and hangs up. They are mad because you have wasted an hour of their time and they get paid commissions mostly. So, you have effectively screwed them out of making any money for that hour and they don't like that so much. :) LOL

pplcheryl63: I think in some cases that would be too tall of an order!
Which is why 'they' will probably keep annoying you with their crap!

Kevin: Ahhh the wonders a good alternate email box could do for you. Ive found one that will check multipl.
I have a garbage e-mail for all of the questionable junk and my real e-mail has the spam filter set on high. I just wish that there was a way to do something about those calls. It's impossible however since everyone on this system are calling the same list, from different numbers.

It really pisses me off because I have two choices answer and get subjected to their garbage or let it ring through to voice mail and miss getting a call from a client. I no longer answer any 800 or toll-free number, No numbers from other area codes that I don't recognize. Instead I have to wait and check the voice mail and then call back.

It's annoying as hell but the only way to avoid the "newest" thing in Marketing.
