If you think that SEO is all about meta tags, H1 and title tags, think again. Matt Cutts reveals that the real SEO is in making your site prettier and more relevant to people than to search engines. And he warns that SEO experts need to take a much wider view of optimising sites.

Well, Google is certainly changing the way it does things. One of my websites with a PR 2 is now a n/a. Why? Who knows? Am I upset - nope - it really doesn't matter. At least to me.

I spent a great deal of time, at one time, learning all the White Hat SEO and spent even more time applying it to my website in the belief that if I ever got on Page 1 of Google well I would get a free pass to heaven or its Internet equivalent. I did that and I wasn't. It really didn't matter. Things happened the same as they always had.

So instead of focusing on SEO I learned how to use vertical venues that have had splendid results. SEO is not the be all and end all. I learned that by experience.

I create my web pages to suit myself and the type of viewer that I am trying to attract. I like clean design, easy to navigate, straightforward content, no keyword stuffing or constant repetition and just a few links per page.

Will I ever be successful - I doubt it. I am not in the loop. I don't keep a list either, even though I am constantly assured that "the money is in the list". Well, so are a lot of very unhappy people which reverently signed up for something (they generally don't know what it was 24 hrs later) and can't understand why they keep getting emails from whomever they signed up with initially and whom they wish would now go away.

SansSecret: Google is paying much more attention to how we all use the Internet. And social networking such as..
While I do treat SEO with a certain amount of attention, it is no longer the most important strategy. Truth be told, you can tell the difference between a blog that is just trying to get traffic as opposed to one that provides an invaluable service.

Google is paying much more attention to 'how' we all use the Internet. And social networking such as here at Apsense, on FB, Twitter, Myspace, etc is going to become increasingly important as part of your SEO efforts.

Which is a good thing, because it makes life easier for all us 'non-techies'. Yay!

You have those who think loading a site with everything they can think of that is attractive to spiders is the way to go. Whoever spiders are not prospects or clients!

I have always shared this view. Everyone called me crazy, but I like a nice clean site that is attractive.

You have to log into the site first
