"When in Rome, do as the Romans do"
We've all heard this phrase at some point but do we really understand the meaning? It means that when you visit somewhere you follow the local laws and customs. Things that may be the norm in your part of the world could cause offense somewhere else. For example in most western cultures it is considered impolite to burp after a meal. But there are some cultures that expect you to not only burp but let out a good belch as a sign of your appreciation. The key is to know the customs and rules whereever you are and follow them.
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse"
Another well known phrase we've all heard at some point and it is very straightforward. Just because you don't know the law does not excuse you from having to follow the law. The premise for this is the fact that laws are published and readily available to the masses, it is the responsibility of the individual to discover what is allowed and what is not allowed. If you did not know, the laws were readily available for you to gain knowledge had you chosen to do so.
